ERRORS
TROUBLESHOOTING
Recommended error-handling routine after an error occurs
Banding. Example #1
Model: any Frontier lab
The Feature of the issue: Banding.
Probable Cause 1: Absence of “ground”
Probable Cause 2: Worn or dirty rollers of the paper advance unit.
Probable Cause 3: Worn belts of the paper advance unit.
Probable Cause 4: A worn bearing of the paper advance unit.
Description of the problem:
Transversal banding in the prints across the paper movement.
Frequency is around 1 mm (0.5 mm darker, 0.5 mm lighter).
1. The absence of “ground”
Call out a technician with a special tool to measure the quality of grounding.
If there is no “ground” – try to find out the cause of its absence.
2. Worn or dirty rollers of the paper advance unit.
Remove the whole paper advance unit and inspect all rollers.
Clean them using any rubber- safe cleaner.
3. Worn belts of the paper advance unit.
If you have removed the whole paper advance unit inspect all belts for badly adjusted tension or for some free threads.
Replace if necessary or adjust the tension.
4. A worn bearing of the paper advance unit.
If you have removed the whole paper advance unit, do not forget to inspect all bearings for backlash.
Replace if necessary.
Resume: Laser repair is not required.
Banding. Example #2
The Feature of the issue: Error message popped-up.
Affects different models of Frontier with a different name of the error code.
Probable cause: the current of a laser diode (LD) has reached the limit. The lifetime of the laser module is over.
There are no end-user serviceable parts inside.
Any non-professional interference may damage the internal content and a laser module will not be able to be restored.
The only way to have the module working is to send it to us for repair (upgrade).
Please send your inquiry to us to have a high-quality repair service or the brand new module.
Resume: Laser repair is not required.
Yellow line is across the picture
Model: any Frontier lab
The Feature of the issue: The yellow line appeared suddenly. There were no errors generated.
Probable cause: Faulty AOM driver of the Blue channel.
Remedy Action: To be sure that the cause of the issue is an AOM driver of the blue channel you need to switch of cables of G and B channels (inputs and outputs) of the AOM drivers.
If you will have the magenta lines (instead of yellow ones), that means the AOM driver is faulty (B channel).
Repair or replace the AOM driver with the new one.
We can offer you high-quality AOM driver repair with a guarantee.
It is not possible to fix the AOM driver for the end-user.
Resume: Laser repair is not required. Please repair the AOM driver.
Yellow color covered picture
Model: any Frontier lab
The Feature of the issue: Yellow covered pictures.
If you have the picture fully covered with yellow, there are two probable causes exist:
Probable Cause 1: Contaminated chemicals (Please read how to find a solution in Noritsu page here).
Probable Cause 2: A defective AOM crystal unit (located inside a laser unit).
If you have the picture partially covered with yellow and at the same time you can see the white part of the picture like on the sample, there is only one probable cause exists:
– defective AOM crystal unit
To find out the condition of the chemicals and exclude it from the list of suspicious parts you have two ways:
1. tightly close the output window of the laser unit with any paper and run a paper feed. If a crystal clear white paper comes out after dryer – the problem is in the laser unit.
If the paper will be covered with a yellow layer – the problem is in contaminated chemicals.
Please read more about the solution for a similar case in our Noritsu troubleshooting page where I described it in detail.
2. Load the paper upside down in the magazine. This will keep the emulsion side of the paper from being exposed to the laser. If it still comes out yellow, then it is NOT the laser. If it comes out white then it is the laser.
If you determined that the cause was in the laser unit, it is not possible to repair the defective part by yourself. AOM crystal unit is a cause of the yellow layer and it is an extremely precise part, finely tuned to the blue laser module on one optical axis.
Please send us your inquiry with a request to repair the AOM crystal and we will help you.
Resume: Laser repair is required if the chemicals are in good condition.
Line along the paper movement
Model: All Frontier minilabs.
Probable Cause: The laser dust-proof glass is dirty.
The Feature of the issue: Pink line on all sizes at one place.
Probable Cause: Sealing foam ribbon around the shutter has a damaged part and a piece of it blocks the laser beam.
Remedy: Remove all the foam. Stick a double-sided foam tape instead of it.
Do not remove a protective paper from an outer side of the tape after use.
Resume: Laser repair is not required.
DIODE
LASER MODULES
All pictures come out white/blank. No error code.
Model: All Frontier minilabs.
The Feature of the issue: All pictures come out white/blank. No error code was generated.
Probable cause 1: Contaminated/exhausted chemicals.
Probable cause 2: Shutter malfunction.
Probable cause 3: R-AOM driver malfunction.
1. How to check the chemicals:
Make the exposure of the paper by daylight (take out 10~15 cm of paper from the paper magazine, to expose it). Rewind the paper into the magazine and load it into a laboratory.
Let the printer feed the exposed paper through the processor. This is a quick way to check that the P1 still gives you a black D-max.
See result.
If the paper will come out from a dryer unit white again – the chemicals are to be replaced.
You should replace all the chemicals in working tanks.
You can leave the replenisher tanks filled if you are sure
2. How to check a shutter:
Use the OUTPUT check service menu to open-close the shutter and observe the shutter during the operation. Check the shutter’s motor and motor driver also. Sometimes the malfunction of these parts can be a cause of white/blank prints.
Using canned air clean the lower and upper photo sensors responsible for shutter open-close operation.
3. Check AOM driver of the red channel.
In some models, the defective AOM driver of the red channel may be the cause of the blank prints. Read above how to swap it with the next AOM driver.
Resume: Laser repair is not required.
Countermeasures against error code E-2501 “Anti-dust shutter abnormal” or the printed pictures are partly or completely white [LP1500SC/LP2000SC/LP2500P]
No error code but tests have a blueish hue.
The Feature of the issue:
The test came out with a bluish hue instead of a gray color.
Probable Cause: Faulty Blue AOM driver.
Countermeasure: Replace with a new one or repair.
Resume: Laser repair is not required. repair of AOM driver is required.
After swapping of Blue AOM driver with Green AOM driver the hue has changed into green.
After swapping of Blue AOM driver with Red AOM driver the hue has changed into blue.

If your Frontier has 2-channel AOM driver – just swap the cables from a green channel with a blue channel and see a result.
Please swap the whole AOM drivers if your minilab has one-channel AOM drivers. Do not forget to mark them before swapping.
If after swapping of a Green AOM driver with a Blue AOM driver you will not see a yellow square – AOM driver which is on the blue channel now is defective.[/wcm_restrict]
